Writers Guild Chuka is an integration of young and determined writers and artists, who are students in Chuka University and have come together to work in unison to realize their dreams in writing, ensure the growth of talents in other young writers and positively impact the society at large. It was established to operate as a chapter and in partnership with Writers Guild Kenya.
Writers Guild Kenya is a national non-governmental organization which was started to help grow talents of young writers within and without universities in Kenya. Its headquarter is in Nairobi.
However, Writers Guild Chuka will be operating independently subject to the constraint of the rules and regulations of Chuka University and the constitution of the Republic of Kenya.
INSPIRATION
With the increasing rate of social evils, lack of opportunities and inadequacy of funds for individuals, the founding members felt that merging as young writers and artists would enable them to raise a voice that would curb these evils, provide opportunities for other young writers and solve the problem of inadequacy of funds.
The founding members were inspired by the need to eradicate corruption, drug abuse, sexual immorality, gender inequality, discrimination, tribalism, racism and other social evils existing in the society today through writing and artistic works. Through a survey conducted by the founding members, it was discovered that many talented young writers and artists lack opportunities to exploit and express their talents in writing and other artistic works. Therefore, they were convinced that the starting of this club would provide such opportunities.
